The Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theater is one of Russia's most distinguished artistic companies. The ballet company became a permanent institution in the mid 1920's and has produced famous ballet dancers, such as  the likes of Nadezhda Pavlova.

Romeo and Juliet, a ballet in three acts with music by Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953), is adapted from William Shakespeare’s romantic tale of star-crossed love. The rivalry between two families: the Montagues and Capulets, and the tragic affect this rivalry has on the son of one family, Romeo, a Montague, and the daughter of the other, Juliet, a Capulet, has intrigued audiences in every medium in which the story has been told: film, book, opera and ballet. It is a timeless tale, a beautiful story of love and sacrifice.
