“Cavalleria Rusticana” (“Rustic Chivalry”) is a tragic tale that unfolds on Easter Sunday in a Sicilian village, circa 1900. Santuzza’s former lover, a soldier named Turridu, is in love with Lola, the wife of the prosperous carter, Alfio. Santuzza seeks revenge by telling Alfio of Lola’s unfaithfulness – a decision that leads to fateful consequences. This passionate story is brought to life by Mascagni’s poignant score, which includes the beautiful ‘Easter Hymn’ and ‘Intermezzo’.
