As co-producer and arranger for the Glenn Miller Orchestra Christmas recordings, John has received Gold & Platinum records. Mr. LaBarbera is a Professor Emeritus of Music at the University of Louisville’s School of Music and is an international clinician/lecturer whose topics range from composing/arranging to intellectual property and copyright. His big band jazz radio show, Best Coast Jazz has been on public radio for over 20 years and is streamed internationally. Mr. LaBarbera’s published works are considered standards in the field of jazz education.
Williamsport City Jazz Orchestra was founded in 2011 by current members Eddie Severn and Bill Ciabattari, and was soon joined in collaboration with some of the finest musicians and educators Central PA has to offer. Today the group is comprised of 17 accomplished musicians, each of whom bring their own “jazz chops” and prowess to the orchestra. More than just performing great big band standards for music enthusiastics, one of the main goals of the orchestra lies in the outreach of promoting the art form to young musicians and help develop their talents through concerts and workshops. In addition to the concert, LaBarbera’s 2-day trip will include a clinic with young musicians as well as a Master class for students that can attend.
The Lycoming College Jazz Ensemble is conducted by one of the founding members of WCJO and music professor, Bill Ciabattari. He stated, “I think it’s a terrific opportunity to have our Lycoming College students work together with all of the talented musicians in the WCJO”.
The Williamsport City Jazz Orchestra is based in Williamsport, PA, and is made up of many of the area’s best jazz musicians. The group plays popular, familiar, obscure, sentimental, and exciting big band jazz tunes. The vision of the group is to provide instruction and education to young students in the Central Pennsylvania area as well as provide quality entertainment to enthusiastic audiences.
