What happens when you take four remarkable musicians from four disparate musical backgrounds and put them together? You get the musical whirlwind that is BELA FLECK AND THE FLECKTONES! First formed in 1988 for a PBS Lonesome Pine Special, Bela and the Flecktones have managed to garner five Grammys as a group while pursuing solo projects and musical collaborations on their own. As Bela said, “What I needed were people that were kind of freaks. Each person had to be an equal or more, and that’s what made it work when I ran into these guys and started playing together.”
Now the original extraordinary lineup, Bela, Howard Levy, Roy “Futureman” Wooten and Victor Wooten, are back together and what you are about to see is as much a gathering of good friends playing music and playing off each other as it is a musical tour de force!
This will be one of the most extensive tours for THE FLECKTONES in years and it features a line-up of songs that blends bluegrass and jazz while enhancing it with a splash of just about everything—from classical and African music, to electric blues and Eastern European folk dances. After over 3 decades of tours, albums, and live performances, BELA FLECK AND THE FLECKTONES have continued to find new inspiration, and constantly reinvent their music, while remaining true to their musical roots. And we are all the better for it.
